Arranging Groupings

To help decide on what pictures to hang in what place, carefully lay them out on the floor or a large table and put the frames into small groups. Depending on the size and quantity you want to hang, leave at least two inches between items.

Various pictures look great in a grouping when they have something in common. For example, a similar theme such as photographs, the same frame style, similar colors or matching art styles.

To tie your group of pictures together, have at least one straight line running through the grouping. Using a star-shaped or pyramid arrangement can allow the eye to move freely from piece to piece without being dazzled.

Showcase a high and dramatic cathedral or lofted-style ceiling by placing a grouping high up on a wall. This draws the eye upward while providing a visual destination, to really accentuate the luxuriously high ceiling of an airy lofted room.

The center of a picture grouping should be at or below the viewer's eye level. Remember, in an area where most people are sitting, such as a dining or conference room, placing the artwork slightly lower is often best.
